Refresh 459: Smart home

This edition:

Smart home interview with Nassim Zine (Google Nest)

Anyone starting a renovation or new-build project can take advantage of the Smart Home technology available. A Smart Home is becoming increasingly acccessible and speech assistants will lower the barrier even further, so that everyone can make use of them.

The smarthome category has grown dramatically over the last two years. What previously was pioneering work, is today accessible to anyone who wants to make his house smarter. There are currently three main ecosystems: Google (Google Assistant), Amazon (Alexa) and Apple
(HomeKit). And it’s no coincidence that the three big companies are conquering the world each with their own speech assistant.

“I expect two categories will break through completely in the next few years: music and light”
– Nassim Zine

We have met up with Nassim Zine, commercial representative for Google Nest in Belgium and the Netherlands. He was employee number 8 in Europe when Nest conquered the world with its clever ther-mostat, and has witnessed the develop-ment of Smart Home products first-hand.
“Previously you had to make connections using IFTTT (If This Then That) and it was mainly something for geeks”, says Nassim. “This has changed over the last two years thanks to the consolidation of three clear platforms. Now everyone can use these products, regardless of whether they are technically minded or not.”

This and a lot of other fascinating smart home products/facts are to be found in our Refresh 459 smarthome Portfolio! With that being said, Refresh 459 also offers info about Tech Data Services (TaaS)InTouch News a ton of interesting vendor pages.
